Zeinab Sheikhitarghi

I’m Zeinab, a PhD student in Generative Biology at the University of Oxford, supervised by Dr Leopold Parts. My background spans electrical engineering and an M.Sc. in Natural Language Processing, plus industry research at Owkin, Lucid Genomics, and Living Models. 

At Owkin I contributed to two projects: I automated generation and delivery of ground‑truth datasets for the Discovery Engine, an ML pipeline for drug‑target identification and prioritisation, and I built and implemented a spatial‑omics dataset as a tool for a biomedical agentic platform that helps researchers answer biological questions. At Lucid Genomics I developed deep‑learning models on short‑read genomes to improve structural‑variant detection. At Living Models I worked on genomic language models for plant genomes and ATAC‑seq–based functional‑track prediction.

My PhD focuses on predictive design for large‑scale DNA writing: building models that generalize to engineered and synthetic chromosomes. Starting from pre‑trained architectures (e.g., AlphaGenome), I will explore fine‑tuning and few‑shot learning on in‑house engineered‑genome datasets and integrate synthetic‑biology experiments that probe sequence–function relationships.
