Welcome to the Generative Biology EIT Doctoral Training Programme
The Generative Biology EIT Doctoral Training Programme is a fully funded four-year DPhil programme that brings together outstanding researchers from across biology, chemistry, engineering, computer science, mathematics and other physical sciences to tackle some of the most exciting challenges in modern biology.
Generative biology seeks to transform our ability to engineer living systems for the benefit of humanity. Achieving this vision requires overcoming two fundamental challenges. First, we must be able to write in the natural language of biology, enabling the rapid and precise synthesis of entire genomes. Second, we must understand what to write by predicting which DNA sequences will produce biological systems with desired functions.
As a student on the programme, you will contribute to research addressing these challenges while receiving world-class interdisciplinary training, generous funding, and mentorship from leading researchers across the University of Oxford, the Generative Biology Institute (GBI) at the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT). Together, we aim to unlock transformative advances in healthcare, agriculture, sustainable manufacturing, clean energy, and beyond.
