Takashi Inagaki is a DPhil student in Chemistry in the Generative Biology EIT Doctoral Training Programme at the University of Oxford. He completed his undergraduate and master’s studies at Nagoya University, where he trained in mechanical engineering and biomechanics and studied the mechanical properties and organization of multicellular biological systems. He later moved to the University of California, Irvine, where his research shifted toward protein engineering, directed evolution, and high-throughput experimental methods, with a particular interest in antibodies and other binding proteins. At Oxford, he plans to combine experimental protein engineering with computational and generative approaches to accelerate the design, evolution, and characterization of functional biomolecules. He is also interested in developing software and automated experimental platforms that integrate AI-driven molecular design, large-scale biological testing, and quantitative analysis, with the goal of making biological engineering faster, more reproducible, and more scalable.
