Jacob Amos Hambalek
Jacob is a 2nd year student in the Generative Biology DTP. The focus of his research is generating highly diversified variants of antibody fragments using OrthoRep continuous evolution, yeast display, and cell sorting. The approach Jacob has implemented generates and quantifies the binding performance of hundreds of antibody variants simultaneously using a high throughput cell sorting assay. He aims to leverage these datasets to fine tune generative antibody design models, with the ultimate goal of unlocking zero-shot antibody design.
Jacob is passionate about synthetic biology and directed evolution, consistently seeking new ways those fields can be deployed to improve public health. Hailing from Fresno, California, USA, Jacob received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Bioengineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. Outside of the lab, Jacob enjoys spending time with his family, playing guitar, and watching sports.
