Alireza Tanoori
Alireza completed his bachelor's degree in biotechnology at the University of Tehran, where he worked on transferring an orthogonal replication system between yeast species. He then joined Dr. Chang Liu's lab at the University of California, Irvine, for his graduate degree, where he developed expertise in directed evolution and synthetic biology. He contributed to the development of ORACLE, a platform for continuous directed evolution of gene libraries using orthogonal replication. At GBI, he is interested in applying library evolution to explore protein sequence space and discover proteins with useful or novel functions.
In his free time, Alireza enjoys listening to music, working out, and doing yoga. His interest in biology began in high school when he participated in the Biology Olympiad. He went on to represent his country at the 2019 International Biology Olympiad in Hungary, where he received a silver medal
